Finish Of The Month – April 2018

With so many great finishes every weekend in combat sports its hard to keep track of them all. As a way to help myself keep track of and chronicle as many as possible, I am going to do a wrap-up and best of for every month. There are no criteria as to what makes the list, it is only based on what I liked best.

April was largely a rollercoaster of ups and downs for fight fans. The month featured plenty of amazing fights and events from the best organisations in combat sports. Unfortunately, the month also presented an overabundance of fight cancellations, fighter injuries and general chaos. In light of these events, one thing remained constant and that was great finishes and even better fights. This was a long list to narrow down, so if I missed any finishes that you believe belong on the list comment them below.

Honourable Mentions

Billy Oosthuizen KOs Pieter De Klerk
Fedor Finishes Frank Mir in Under a Minute
Demarques Jackson Marches Down Hamilton Ash
Siyar Bahadurzada’s Stabbing Front Kick To The Body
Cosmo Alexandre’s Still Got It

Five – Kevin Belingon Crushes Andrew Leone

ONE Championship: Heroes Of Honor was, in my opinion, one of the best cards that ONE has put together so far. The Main Event of this card featured a near flawless performance from Filipino Bantamweight Kevin Belingon. Kevin put a cap on his dominant performance by finishing his opponent with a beautiful spinning back kick followed up by some brutal knees to the head. This was an all-around incredible performance and finish from Belingon.

Four – Daniil Gavrilov’s Perfect Head-Kick KO

ACB Kickboxing has quietly been putting together some great cards filled with exciting matchups. As is also the case with ACB MMA, the cards tend to go under the radar of most if not all fight fans. If you are yet to see an ACB kickboxing event, this perfect head-kick KO by Daniil Gavrilov should be all the convincing you need.

Three – Picture Perfect Right Hand KO From Mergen Bilyalov

Knockouts don’t get any cleaner than this. From the setup through to the execution, everything about this KO was smooth, sharp and destructive. Absolutely incredible finish from Mergen Bilyalov.

Two – Adam Borics’s Amazing Flying Knee KO

No matter how many times we see flying knee knockouts, they will never cease to amaze me. After dominating the majority of the fight, Adam Borics put the perfect cap on his already standout performance — crushing his opponent with a perfect jumping switch knee. This was definitely one of the most impressive finishes of the year so far.

One – Dan Hooker Dismantles Jim Miller With a Standing Knee

As one of the most underrated Lightweights in the UFC, it is only fitting that Dan Hooker has now executed two perfect knockouts using one of the most underrated techniques in the sport. Standing knee attacks in MMA are extremely underused. As Dan Hooker has showcased, (for taller fighters in particular) the use of standing knees can be extremely effective for both defusing an opponents forward pressure and creating damage. Dan Hooker continues to impress with every fight and will surely be featured in this category again in the future.
