Thiago Santos Vs Steve Bosse

UFC Fight Night 70 (June 27 2015)

Thiago Santos Vs Steve Bosse

Winner – Thiago Santos Via Round 1 KO

This weekend’s UFC Atlantic City is one of the best Fight Night cards the UFC has put together in some time. One of the fights from this card that I am anticipating the most is the Middleweight matchup between Thiago Santos and David Branch.

At 34 years of age, Thiago Santos has put together the best run of his career and is currently on a four-fight win streak, all spectacular KO/TKO finishes. Santos’s athleticism and power perfectly compliment his explosive striking style. Regardless of the opponent, during the first two rounds, Santos is going to be one of the most dangerous (and exciting) Middleweights in the world.

Prior to his loss to Luke Rockhold in his last fight, David Branch was on his way to becoming one of the most consistent fighters in the sport. In a run that spanned six years Branch put together eleven straight wins — capturing both the Middleweight and Light-Heavyweight title in the now-defunct WSOF. Although Branch has never been an explosive, head-turning knockout artist the caliber of Thiago Santos, he deserves similar praise due to his ability to consistently display an effective, well-rounded game every time he competes.

This is going to be an extremely interesting fight with potential foreshadowing for the future of both men. If Thiago Santos is able to overwhelm David Branch and potentially earn another highlight reel finish. It is quite likely that we could see him launched into the top ten and possibly a fight with a top-five contender. As he approaches 37, with a long career behind him, a second consecutive KO/TKO loss for David Branch could potentially put an end to his UFC title aspirations and even his career. On the other hand, if Branch is able to execute his game plan and overcome the explosive Santos. It is likely that we will see him make one last run at the title, while Santos may potentially never grasp the top ten again.

Based off of their last few performances I am leaning towards Thiago Santos to get the win in this fight but it would be foolish to overlook David Branch. This is going to be an excellent matchup and I can not wait for the fights this weekend.
